Lynn - Customer Support Office

Customer Support Office
My name is Lynn and I’m a Customer Adviser, working in the Customer Support Office.

I’m part of a great team with a really good mix of people from different ages and levels of experience. We’ve recently acquired a few new people as a result of colleagues getting other opportunities in the Company.

I work full time on call handling, providing a wide range of advice and support to our customers. In fact, I’m trained on 27 products and services that we provide – we call them splits. It’s ideal for me as I have a real thirst for knowledge! But that’s just my take on it though, as the Team Leader is really only looking for people to be able to work on five.

Before you are let loose on the phones on any new product you get your classroom training and, if appropriate, buddying up with someone. It’s an ideal way to get hands on experience and you never feel intimidated. You are never left to your own devices to just flounder. There’s plenty of support and the good thing is that you get the chance to take calls on your newly learned knowledge straightaway so you don’t forget about it!

There’s great balance in the job - although you are kept busy there’s no pressure. You are responsible for your own time management and the targets are not unreasonable. There’s more emphasis now on listening and questioning the customer to help provide a really good customer service than worrying about the length of the call.

I like to build up my flexi to get a day off every now and again and because the team spirit is so good we can always arrange it between ourselves. Occasionally there’s the chance to do overtime as well – which I never turn down!

You also get support to develop yourself. I have talked to my Team Leader about becoming a Trainer and now I provide support to our new team members to give me experience in this type of work. We also have ongoing training to help us do the job – a recent one we got on what to do when you encounter phone rage was superb.

The benefits the Company offers are really good - like having free life insurance and a free on-site eye test. It feels like the company is really concerned about your welfare. And the facilities are excellent, as well. I’ve worked in a few places and this is the best I’ve encountered.
