Find out about the following undergraduate support:

Maintenance Grant

The Maintenance Grant helps higher education students from Northern Ireland, in particular those from lower income backgrounds, with their general living costs whilst they study. The higher the amount of Maintenance Grant a student is assessed for, the lower their amount of Maintenance Loan will be.

Welsh Government Learning Grant

The Welsh Government Learning Grant helps higher education students, in particular those from lower income backgrounds, with their general living costs whilst they study. The higher the amount of grant a student is assessed for, the lower their amount of Maintenance Loan will be.

Special Support Grant

The Special Support Grant is available to students from Northern Ireland and Wales. It is specifically for students who have extra requirements, for example if they have disabilities or are single parent.

The amount of Special Support Grant a student can receive is the same as the Maintenance Grant or Welsh Government Learning Grant, except entitlement to it does not reduce the amount of Maintenance Loan a student is assessed for. This allows students to receive a higher level of support overall to help them through their course.

Part-time Course Grant

This is a financially-assessed grant for course costs (books and materials etc) for part-time students. A course is designated for part-time grants if it:

  • lasts at least one year
  • leads to an HE qualification
  • takes no longer than twice the time required to study the course full time
