Finalisation exercise is starting soon

Finalisation exercise is starting soon

31 August 2015

On 1st September approximately 2,800 Student Finance England students, who started their courses during  AY 2013/14 or before, will be sent a copy of a ‘2014/15 Confirmation of Household Financial Commitments for Dependants’ Grants’ (DGCI) form.

These students will only have six weeks to return the form before their grants are removed. If a removal is necessary, any overpayments will be taken from any future instalment of grant.

Please help us by encouraging any students who have received this request to return the completed DGCI form to SFE as soon as possible. Students will also be sent a text message and a reminder letter within the six week period.

This exercise is done as part of Finalisation, which is the process carried out at the end of the academic year for all students who’s course started prior to academic year (AY) 13/14, have received Grants for Dependants (GFDs) and who have a partner/spouse or another adult dependant to check that they have received the correct entitlement. The amount can rise, fall or stay the same. Parents’ Learning Allowance, Childcare Grant and Adult Dependants’ Grant are all classed as Dependants’ Grants.

From AY 13/14 the Finalisation process changed and we no longer need to finalise income. However, students who started their course prior to AY 13/14 remain entitled to submit household financial commitments and are subject to the Finalisation process until the end of their course.

A fully completed Confirmation of Household Financial Commitments for Dependants’ Grants (DGCI) form must be received from all students included in the exercise, signed and accompanied by evidence of all household financial commitments.
