In 2006/07 variable tuition fees were introduced in England and Northern Ireland. Students were given the option of taking loans to cover tuition fees charged as well as maintenance costs. Given the big differences in policy between administrations the Loan Take Up figures at the UK level from 2006/07 onwards are not shown on this table. Instead for England and Wales they can be found in the Student Support awards by academic year Statistical First Releases for those two administrations in the National Statistics section of this website.

The resultant accumulated debt is shown (separately for all four administrations) in the Official Statistics published on this website for Income Contingent Loan Repayments by Repayment Cohort.
