Loan cancellation evidence

Student loans will be cancelled if a customer:

Cancellation requests due to a disability

You’ll need to send copies of two items as evidence:

  1. A letter from a doctor or consultant stating that you’re 'Permanently unfit for work' and dated within the last 6 months.
  2. Evidence of disability related benefits.

Evidence of disability related benefits can be:
Last letter of assessment from the Benefits Agency; or
a bank statement showing these benefit payments (dated within the last 6 months).

The following benefits mean you may be eligible for student loan cancellation:

  • Employment and Support Allowance
  • Disability Living Allowance
  • Industrial Injuries Benefit
  • Severe Disablement Allowance

Evidence, along with your Customer Reference Number should be sent to:

Cancellation requests due to a death

We’ll need you to send one of the following as evidence:

  • Original death certificate.
  • Original coroner’s interim certificate.
  • Copy of coroner’s certificate stamped by the coroner.
  • Copy of a foreign death certificate.

The cancellation request, along with the customer's Customer Reference Number should be sent to:
