Students in England: Application Deadlines Approaching

Students in England are being urged to submit their university funding applications by the upcoming deadlines to ensure their funding is in place at the start of term.

17 May 2016

New students should apply for funding by 27 May 2016 and the deadline for continuing students is 24 June 2016.

The Student Loans Company will process around 1.7 million applications this year, with record numbers for England students expected at its Darlington office. Around 675,000 students in England have already submitted applications.

Mark Cassidy, Director of Customer Services and Operations, said:

“New students in England should apply now and the deadline for continuing students is just around the corner too. It's important to apply by the relevant deadlines to make sure your funding is in place at the start of term.

“You don’t need a confirmed place to be able to apply - you can use your first choice of course and update it later if needed. New students should have their National Insurance Number and Passport to hand when they start the application.

“Students will also be asked to provide bank details - it’s important to enter the correct bank details to ensure the funding is paid into the right account.

“Students continuing their courses should gather details of any change of circumstances in the last year to provide up to date information. “

It can take six weeks to process a funding application so students should apply as early as possible.”

The Company has released a new series of 'Ask SFE about...' films, addressing customers' most Frequently Asked Questions from the application process. The films cover covering everything from applying for finance to repayment and explain complex information to students about eligibility and evidence, as well as Postgraduate loans and the extra help available.

The films will be updated at key points in the application cycle over the next few months to including details around Clearing, payment and the start of term. The 'Ask SFE about student finance' playlist is available: www.YouTube.com/SFEfilm

New students can get clued up on what financial support is available before applying at gov.uk/studentfinance. Extra help may be available to you if you have dependants or a disability and part time applications are also available now.

Those thinking about studying for a Further Education qualification can now apply for an Advanced Learner Loan, to help with the costs of a course at a college or training provider in England. Eligible learners starting courses from 1 August 2016 can apply at www.gov.uk/advancedlearnerloan.
